With in-house sherry expert Ian Adams and an impressive collection of over 500 spirits,?15 Romolo has been one of SF?s greatest bars for over a decade. Their sherry collection is one of their strengths and I look forward to their Sherry Christmas cocktail menu ($10-13 each) each year.

The menu came early this year and there are a number of notable drinks, from the dry, elegant Penelope to the wintery Cosmic Rebellion. But it?s tough to resist the Miraculous Milk Punch. It?s a clarified milk punch, meaning the texture is silky and flavors intense. With a base of dark rum and reserva brandy de Jerez, the rum and sherry are enlivened with green cardamom, nutmeg and clarified milk. It?s ideal during night or day (Romolo?s fab brunch).” [link]

Romolo, which is very literally located at 15 Romolo Pl, is one of San Francisco’s hardest bars to find, mostly because it’s up a steep alleyway in the middle of strip club-filled Broadway that’s otherwise completely vacant. 15 Romolo celebrates sherry all year long! Starting in early 2014, we began producing our own house vermouth blends, a ?dry? vermouth with a fino base and a ?sweet? using oloroso sherry. These vermouths debuted in our House 50/50 Martini, and the Shegroni, a cocktail based on the classic negroni which we developed for Campari Negroni Week.?

Jerez was selected a Wine Region of the Year in Europe?and 15 Romolo celebrated as the first west coast host of an International Sherry Week event. And early this fall we hosted the first Lustau?Sherry Cocktail Competition with a dozen of Bay premier cocktail bartenders.

Whether for a five-dollar-fino happy hour, a flight of exceptional copas, or one of our 18 by the glass selections, sherry abounds?7 days a week ?till 2am. Come celebrate sherry with us!

I texted my friends to see what was a matter
I flew onto Broadway like a cab running on cash,
At 15 Romolo, I arrived and knew I’d have a blast
With a little young bartender, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his Sherries they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
“Now, PEDRO XIMENEZ now, FINO!
now, AMONTILLADO and PALO CORTADO!
On, RICH CREAM! on OLOROSSO! ?on MANZANILLA!
The Cocktails and Sherries were such a delight!
I even settled down for a food pairing and flight.
Satisfied and warm from the imbibing
My only thoughts were of a sweet Holiday tiding:
“A Sherry Christmas to you all
and to all a good night!”

You’d think that after hearing Rich Girl about 100 times a night, that song would get the axe, but that’s not the way things work around here.?Our new mayor’s mix – Fernetaboutit #3 mix now has 13 versions of your favorite song! Hello all!

I?m sure you?ve seen me at one point or another: possibly pouring shots and shots of tequila for thirsty bar patrons and staff, or maybe it was a night when I was tied up to our pillar with duck tape, or it could have been that one bearded man with a fro, red lipstick, and bamboo hoop earrings taking your order (Yes! That was me!). Anyways the locals know me as Suzu?and as much of an introduction this may be, it equally serves as my departure from 15 Romolo.
Long story short?aside from Romolo, I?ve been working several other jobs at an average of eighteen hour work days, seven days a week, for over two years, just so I can save up to travel the world! So before I leave (or after, if I?m already gone) I?m taking this blog entry as my opportunity to reach out to our guests?because you are the reason why we do what we do.
To all the regulars I?ve had the pleasure serving; I thank you so much for all the support and encouraging advice about traveling, life, and growing up! Being the baby of the bar, I look up to those who have ?been there? and ?done that??whatever ?there? and ?that? is. Even when this job can be a little sticky and hectic at times, it?s the tender energy you all give that remind me why I?m so in love with my job. You all are one of the main reasons why my experience at Romolo has been so golden, and I will miss seeing you all!
To all those who I?ve missed out on meeting and/or have not yet been to Romolo; I?m telling you right now this bar is supported by some of the hardest working and talented individuals. We laugh and sweat together. We witness each others lives amplify. We take two vacations a year, together. Our bond is so incredibly unique?one that is incomparable to any work environment I?ve been in. Even on a busy weekend night, you?ll see that the passion the staff has for one another is raw, real, and is reflected into our craft and work ethic. I assure that you?ll feel the same oomph I felt when I first stepped into 15 Romolo, and yes you?re going to have an amazing time.

The Mayor’s Menu Takes Over Punch Drunk Brunch

To celebrate our 15th Anniversary in June of 2013, 15 Romolo invited our Four Square Mayor, ?the much-beloved foodie and tweet-master @thedapperdiner, to collaborate with us on a special Punch Drunk Brunch menu.

First timers and regulars alike fell in love with the new offerings, so we decided to make the Mayor’s Menu the official menu of Punch Drunk Brunch! On the new menu, you will find a larger selection of small plates designed with guests in mind for whom our 11:30 opening time is a little to late for first food of the day, as well as some incredible new features like Pork Sugo with braised greens and poached eggs or a seasonally topped French-rolled omelet. Regular guests should not be afraid, because the Breakfast Biscuit Sandwich, Biscuit and Gravy, Brioche French Toast and Waffle Shots ?made the cut.

We are excited to see the response to our new brunch menu and look forward to sharing these new plates with you on your next visit!
